The homeowner off Memorial in west Houston didn’t call about a smell or a noise. The complaint was simpler: towels were taking two full cycles to dry, and the laundry room felt like a sauna by the end of a load. Both of those are the dryer telling you its exhaust path is blocked, and this one turned out to be blocked about as thoroughly as a vent can get.

Why this is more than a laundry problem
Lint burns. The U.S. Fire Administration ties roughly 2,900 home fires a year to dryers, and the leading cause is exactly what’s in that photo: a vent that hasn’t been cleaned. A blocked line traps heat inside the duct and the dryer cabinet, and every load pushes more fuel into it. The energy cost is the quieter half of the story — a dryer fighting a clogged vent runs 30 to 50 percent longer per load, and that shows up on the bill every month.
The cleaning
We cleaned the line end to end, from the connection behind the dryer to the exterior termination, then cleared the lint from the dryer cabinet itself. No shortcuts with a hardware-store brush kit here — the buildup was deep in the run where those kits can’t reach.

Signs your vent is headed the same way
Clothes needing more than one cycle, a dryer that’s hot to the touch on top, a warm humid laundry room after a load, a faint scorched smell, or an exterior flap that barely moves when the dryer runs. Any one of those is worth a look; two or more means stop waiting.
